Jonathan and I have been cleaning the house today. We’ve been really busy this season and things have been piling up…dirt, clutter, mail, clothes, dishes, etc. So we spent today cleaning, decluttering, purging.

I put on Sara Bareilles Radio on Pandora and it hit me several hours later, when I took the dogs out for a potty break that a lot of the song lyrics we had been listening to easily fit in talking about Jesus, especially on this Good Friday.

So here are a few of the songs we’ve been hearing and the lyrics that make me pause and reflect on Jesus’ life, ministry, and death.

I’ve been beaten down, I’ve been kicked around,
But she takes it all for me.
And I lost my faith, in my darkest days,
But she makes me want to believe.

They call her love, love, love, love, love.
They call her love, love, love, love, love.
She is love, and she is all I need. (“She is Love.” – Parachute)

I miss the sound of your voice
And I miss the rush of your skin
And I miss the still of the silence
As you breathe out and I breathe in

I miss the sound of your voice
Loudest thing in my head
And I ache to remember
All the violent, sweet
Perfect words that you said

It’s all wrong, it’s all wrong
It’s all wrong, it’s so right
So come on, get higher
So come on and get higher
‘Cause everything works, love
Everything works in your arms.  (“Come On Get Higher” – Matt Nathanson)

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?    (“Pompeii” – Bastille)

Come up to meet you, tell you I’m sorry
You don’t know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh, let’s go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start   (“The Scientist” – Coldplay)
